Records, Youth, and Club Life: Poppenroth Celebrates a Sporting Weekend

Two days, two formats, full facilities: FC Viktoria Poppenroth bundled tennis and football events into one sports-packed weekend, making one thing especially clear – how strongly grassroots sports thrive through participation, youth development, and community.

Participation Record at “Popp’n’Doppel”

The “Popp’n’Doppel” reached a new high in 2026: 24 men’s teams and 18 mixed teams took part – more than ever before. This growth is more than just a side note, as it shows that the format works not only athletically, but also as a low-threshold meeting point: doubles pairings, humor, and team names are just as much a part of the concept as the shared experience around the facility.

The tennis department explicitly highlighted the record; an additional award for the mixed competition (Röder Cup) was also mentioned. This fits the character of the event: less performance pressure, more club moments – and thus an attractive stage for active members who don’t chase medals every weekend, but enjoy playing, competing, and coming together.

Mambo Cup: Children’s Tournaments and a Parent-Child Duel as the Highlight

On Sunday, the focus shifted to the football youth. At the fifth “Mambo Cup,” U9 and U11 tournaments were held. A planned U13 match did not take place as intended; instead, a parent-child duel was organized in the afternoon. The children won this match 4:2 – a result that was less about sporting relevance and more about symbolism: the club creates experiences that involve both children and parents equally.

Additional motivation came from an initiative with the city of Bad Kissingen: all participants of the Mambo Cup received a ticket to the terrace swimming pool. The city had reopened the pool after renovations in May 2026 – the free tickets directly linked the sports program with another leisure offering in the region.

Breadth Instead of Peak – and That as a Strength

FC Viktoria Poppenroth, which sees itself as a multi-sport club offering football and tennis as well as various health and fitness formats, made this weekend visible as a community project. What mattered was not a single “top result,” but the high level of participation: a participation record on the tennis court, youth tournaments on the football field, and a framework that organizes sport as a shared space. That is the real message of the weekend – Poppenroth relies on participation formats that hold the club together and introduce new generations to sport and volunteering.
