Universum Kinopalast | Cinema Program & Prices
The Universum Kinopalast at Geschwister-Scholl-Platz 2 in 97688 Bad Kissingen is a modern, friendly cinema focused on providing a comfortable movie experience and reliable visitor information. Three fully air-conditioned auditoriums with a total of 459 seats, THX sound system, as well as 3D and digital projection form the technical basis. The venue opens daily from 2:00 PM, the program changes every Thursday and is updated online by Tuesday morning at the latest. In addition to regular screenings, there is a cinema day on Tuesday with particularly low prices and a family day on Sunday, where accompanying parents pay the children's price for selected age ratings. There are ample parking options available right next to the building, ensuring a stress-free arrival. Tickets can be conveniently purchased online through the website (some functions are provided by the service provider kinoheld) or at the box office on-site. The large foyer and bistro complete the visit; moreover, the cinema can be rented for private or business events.
Cinema Program: Weekly Overview, Updates, and Formats
Those who want to know what is showing today, this upcoming weekend, or next week can find the complete cinema program digitally on the official website of the Universum Kinopalast. The venue communicates a fixed rhythm: The program changes regularly on Thursday, and the online overview is updated by Tuesday morning at the latest. This allows visitors to plan their cinema experience early, for example, to secure premiere screenings, 3D screenings, or family afternoons. It is practical that the cinema provides its program data through a modern online infrastructure; individual functions such as film overview, newsletter, or voucher sales are provided by the service provider kinoheld. For guests, this means a streamlined, familiar booking environment with high availability. In addition to daily screenings, the program history and external event overviews show that the cinema is engaged with regional film events. For instance, the Universum Kinopalast hosted the Jufinale Unterfranken 2025 – the children's and youth film festival of the region. Such program points bring additional diversity to the venue and target new audiences, from young filmmakers to families. From the visitor's perspective, those interested in 3D should pay attention to corresponding markings in the online overview; where 3D is indicated, a moderate surcharge applies. At the same time, it is worth looking at different start times in the afternoon and evening to choose the appropriate screening based on daily planning. Since updates reliably occur at the beginning of the week, it is advisable to finalize the cinema week planning from Tuesday morning, secure seats, and possibly integrate the cinema day (Tuesdays) into the scheduling.
Opening Hours, Tickets & Prices: Clearly Regulated and Family-Friendly
The opening hours are easy to remember: The Universum Kinopalast opens daily from 2:00 PM. In terms of pricing, the venue relies on a transparent model that applies regardless of seat category. Persons aged 12 and older pay €10.00, children up to and including 11 years pay €8.00. Additional surcharges may apply: for extended films and for 3D screenings (3D surcharge €2.00). Those who do not own their own 3D glasses can purchase them at the bistro for €2.00 and reuse them later. Families and price-conscious cinema fans additionally benefit from two regular promotions: Tuesday is cinema day, where all visitors pay the reduced children's price, and Sunday is family day, where parents receive the children's price for films with age ratings of 0 or 6, as well as for children under 12 years. Both promotions do not apply on public holidays and the respective day before. Important for planning: After 6:01 PM, the children's discount is no longer available. Tickets are available in two ways: online through the website (with individual functions via the ticket service provider kinoheld) or traditionally at the cinema box office. Those who book online can secure their tickets in advance and avoid waiting times, while purchasing on-site remains flexible – helpful if one wants to orient themselves to the program at short notice. With this mix of clear pricing structure, reliable opening hours, and recurring savings opportunities, the Universum Kinopalast positions itself as a family-friendly, planable destination for both afternoon and evening screenings.
Directions & Parking: Conveniently Accessible with Parking Options Right Next Door
The address of the cinema is Geschwister-Scholl-Platz 2, 97688 Bad Kissingen. An advantage for arriving by car: There are ample parking options available right next to the building. This minimizes the search for a parking space and makes the visit planable – especially on weekends or during well-attended family screenings. For guests picking up multiple tickets, transporting drinks or snacks, or traveling with children, the immediate proximity of the parking spaces is a noticeable comfort gain. Due to the daily opening from 2:00 PM, the influx is often spread out over the afternoon and evening, but during peak times – such as at the start of holidays, holiday programs, or blockbuster premieres – it is still advisable to allow a few extra minutes of buffer time. Those arriving by taxi will find a clear destination address at the square; visitors coming on foot from the city center can also orient themselves at Geschwister-Scholl-Platz. For navigation systems, entering the postal code 97688 and the street name with house number is sufficient; alternatively, the website offers a map view for quick orientation. The advantage of the location and the directly adjacent parking options is that the entire process – from parking to ticket purchase to finding seats – works without long distances. This leaves more time for the essentials: getting popcorn, taking a seat, and enjoying the film start.
Auditoriums, Seats & Technology: Numbers, Comfort, and Sound
The Universum Kinopalast has three fully air-conditioned auditoriums with a total of 459 seats. The distribution is clearly indicated: Auditorium 1 offers 236 seats, Auditorium 2 has 97, and Auditorium 3 has 126 seats. These capacities allow for parallel screenings and a balanced program throughout the day – for example, family films in the afternoon and blockbusters or art films in the evening. On the technical side, the venue advertises with a THX sound system, 3D, and digital projection. THX stands for a tested quality of sound reproduction and auditorium acoustics, which makes a noticeable difference, especially in action-packed productions, sci-fi, or music-driven films. 3D screenings are marked accordingly in the program and require a small surcharge; suitable 3D glasses are available at the bistro and can be reused multiple times. The topic of room climate is also regulated: all auditoriums are fully air-conditioned, which provides comfort, especially in summer months or during long screenings. As a general tip for personal seat selection, it is advisable to plan early, especially for highly demanded screenings. Those who value particularly balanced sound typically orient themselves to the middle rows; guests who prefer short distances choose edge seats near the auditorium doors. Regardless, the central advantage in Bad Kissingen remains: a technically well-equipped venue with clearly communicated auditorium capacities, creating convincing conditions for both major studio films and regional film events.
Events, Promotions & Regional Highlights
In addition to regular screenings, the Universum Kinopalast opens its doors for special dates and formats. The venue can be rented for events – from private film screenings to corporate parties to conferences or congresses. For this, a spacious foyer, a bistro area, and three air-conditioned auditoriums are available; collaboration with catering services or external caterers is expressly permitted. This openness to special events makes the cinema a versatile place for companies, schools, clubs, or private occasions. On the program level, the cinema regularly relies on two recurring promotions: cinema day on Tuesday, where all visitors receive the children's price, and family day on Sunday with reduced prices for accompanying parents at child-friendly age ratings (FSK 0/6). Additionally, the venue has presented itself as a platform for emerging filmmakers: in 2025, the Jufinale Unterfranken took place here – the children's and youth film festival of the region. Such occasions create additional attention and give the audience the opportunity to experience regional productions on the big screen. For guests, this means: in addition to Hollywood releases, it is worth looking at special dates, festivals, or unique events that may appear in the weekly overview. Those planning their own event should get in touch directly – by phone or email – to coordinate auditorium sizes, times, and technical requirements. With clear capacities and the existing infrastructure, it is possible to organize events with a larger number of participants efficiently.
On-Site Service: Bistro, Youth Protection & Practical Tips
The Universum Kinopalast offers practical services that make the cinema visit pleasant as part of the overall experience. Snacks and drinks are available at the bistro; here, there are also 3D glasses for the price of €2.00, which can be reused after purchase during later visits. The venue strives to communicate clear rules transparently: the age ratings of the voluntary self-regulation of the film industry (FSK) apply bindingly to visitors, guardians, and the cinema team. A special exception rule allows the attendance of films rated 12 years and older from the age of 6 when accompanied by a parent. Additionally, the time limits of the Youth Protection Act must be observed. For questions, contact details are available: by phone at 0971/1400 or by email at info@kino-universum-bk.de (as stated in the imprint). Those looking to save should consciously plan their visit on Tuesday (cinema day) or Sunday (family day). For families, it is advisable to arrive on time, use parking next door, and grab snacks at the bistro before taking their seats. Since program changes occur on Thursdays and are updated by Tuesday at the latest, it is advisable to check the online overview at the beginning of the week. Last but not least: the cinema participates in the cultural pass offer. Together with reliable parking options right next to the venue, a clear pricing policy, and the combination of THX sound, 3D, and air conditioning, a visitor experience is created that combines planning security, comfort, and sound quality – ideal for spontaneous afternoons, family outings, or the big blockbuster in the evening.

We pre-ordered our tickets online. Free seating was only possible. When we arrived, we were yelled at by the staff. That it was completely pointless to book the tickets. Free seating wasn't possible, we had to sit in the front row because supposedly the cinema was full. Which it obviously wasn't!!!!

A real little highlight! We went to the cinema today with my daughter and watched "The Smurfs." The cinema is wonderfully clean, the atmosphere cozy, and the seats super comfortable – watching here is really fun! The staff is very friendly and accommodating. You can tell that they work here with heart. We will definitely come back! 🍿💙

Great, warm, and cozy cinema. We were there for the first time on Monday and are thrilled. Comfortable seats, easy ticket booking, quick service when ordering popcorn, etc., super nice staff (anyone from Nes knows it can be very different at the Starlight cinema). The hall is very large and clean. Parking situation is optimal. And above all, the sound is impressive (can easily compete with Cinecitta Nürnberg). 5 stars and lots of ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ for that…
